The Bemidji State University Center For Research and Innovation is offering an on-line professional development certification course in human resources management beginning September 6.
The 12-week non-credit course is designed for professionals who are new to the human resources field or human resources assistants and staff who provide technical or administrative support in that field.
A registration form along with more detailed information is available on-line at www.cri-bsu.org/onlineHRcert.htm or by calling the CRI at 218-755-4900. The registration fee for the course is $600 and the registration deadline is August 29.
Topics to be addressed by the certification program include examining the role of
human resources; affirmative action, discrimination and harassment; job analysis, job applications and interviews; employee issues, benefits and workers compensation; recruiting and hiring procedures; performance management systems; coaching poor performance, discipline and terminations; components of an employee handbook; and organizational culture and employee involvement strategies.
Individuals and employees completing the certification will be prepared to carry out such human resources projects as developing an employee handbook, planning an employee training program or designing an employee compensation plan.
The course will involve approximately five hours of homework weekly, and participants will be encouraged to log on to the discussion forums since interacting with fellow students online will enhance and expand the knowledge and professional contacts gained.
A unique program feature is that participants will continue to be able to tap into the resources identified during the coursework, including the expertise of other students, on-line long after the course has concluded.
The CRI is an off-campus facility developed as a conduit between Bemidji State University, business, industry, non-profits and the general public.
